ham-radioFollowing a tough day’s work, or at the weekends, everyone deserves some fun in life. So why not have a go at Amateur Radio – it truly is a great hobby. You can make many of new friends and chat to radio hams in countries far and wide. Just try to picture what it would be like when you walk into your very own Radio Shack, sit in front of your brand new radio transceiver, pick up the microphone, press the push-to-talk, and a Radio Amateur on the opposite side of the world comes straight back to your CQ call. It will blow your socks off. And radio conditions permitting, it is easy to do. Modern Ham Radio Equipment contains advanced technology that enables you to effortlessly make contacts all over the globe. There are numerous radio hams out there who will go to great lengths in order to send their radio messages as far as they can.Others enjoy building and testing radios in the comfort of their own homes. Some enjoy listening. They enjoy using their radio sets to tune into radio hams, aircraft, shipping, satellites, and even spacecraft – they’re known as Short Wave Listeners. Many radio amateurs become members of their local Amateur Radio Society, which is another splendid way to be introduced to new contacts.

If you’re into foreign languages, like me, the ham radio frequencies are the ideal place for teaching yourself ANY language you choose. You don’t have to be fluent – just a few pleasant words will break the ice. And if you’re required to stay in the house because of illness, old age, or disability – amateur radio will keep you in touch with the rest of the world. These are just a few of the many aspects of Amateur Radio.

The benefits just go on and on. Now it’s your turn. Why don’t you give it a try. Discover for yourself the fun of this remarkable hobby. In less than 20 minutes a day, you can teach yourself enough to pass the straightforward exam that is required to get your Amateur Radio Licence. Less than six months later, you could be on the air with your own call sign. And, in no time at all, you can be sending messages all over the globe.

Finally: No more excuses! Anyone can become a Radio Ham.

It’s up to you to make it happen… If I can do it, you can do it. Remember: Anything can be achieved if you do it one step at a time. You have my warmest regards. I hope to contact you on one of the amateur bands someday soon. In the mean time – Have Fun! 73 (Best Wishes).
